There’s no substitute for a good subtitle.

Résumé or not to Resume

I don’t know what my problem is, but I really don’t like to dust off my résumé.  I know that from time to time it is a good idea to pull it out and brush it up, but each time I think about it my first reaction is a stout “meh…” accompanied by a shoulder shrug.

But not tonight.

I’m trying to get myself pumped up.

Tonight I’ll finally pull it out and bring it up to date.  I think it is currently nearly 4 years old – yikes!

Don’t get me wrong here – I’m not looking for a new job or anything (indeed, I don’t really think that a résumé does much good in the job hunt anyway – but that’s another story) but I do think it’s a good idea to record what I’ve been up to while I can still remember it all.

I think that the hardest part of résumé tweaking is knowing what to write…

I once attended a seminar on how to create a killer résumé.  (I was near graduation and was about to need every advantage I could get to find a job)

I still remember a few key points that were brought to my attention:

  1. Don’t say what you did – describe how you helped your organization to succeed.
  2. Be Bold.
  3. Highlight items that are directly applicable to whatever you want to be doing.
  4. Do whatever you it takes to keep it to 2 pages or fewer.
  5. Be sure you’re speeling is checkd.

So, armed with my newfound experience I march boldly into my word processor to toot my own horn.
