There’s no substitute for a good subtitle.

Ruby on Rails

So, a few weeks ago I was looking for a way to escape the XML pain that is involved in writing just about any web application in Java these days.  Honestly, I was beginning to feel like in trying to make Java web apps so easy to write, the increased complexity to handle all the XML was actually making things harder.  Java zealots feel free to flame now.

Go ahead, I’ll wait.

Finished?

Good.  Let’s talk about Ruby and Rails now. 🙂  Stuck in the Java slump as I was, I decided to seek some input from my local [Linux Users Group](http://www.plug.org).  Most of the responses I got were one of 2 forms:

    1) Anyone who still programs in Java is a moron, or

    2) Anyone who programs in anything other than Java is a moron.

However, there were a few suggestions to check out Ruby On Rails.

Having never heard of Rails, and having heard only a very little about Ruby,

I decided to give it a try.

I started by watching this.

Seeing the power and expressiveness found in Rails blew me away.  I started toying with i in a more serious manner, and have become infatuated with the startling ease with which

I can now do things.

I have just about finished up my first real project in Rails for work, and it will go live this week. 🙂

So, if you happen to be looking for a fantastically easy way to write web apps, give it a look.
